February Jobs

From the English Garden magazine Feb '22 issue;

  • Order snowdrops to plant 'in the green'. Divide existing clumps as their flowers fade.

  • Protect early fruit blossom from frost. Apricots and peaches both flower early, so keep fleece on hand to drape over them if frost is forecast.

  • Finish winter pruning wisteria, shortening shoots or two or three buds to promote the build-up of stumpy, flowering spurs.

  • When seed potatoes arrive, stand them eyes-upward on a light, cool windowsill to chit.

  • Overwintering chrysanthemum stools can be started into growth now, ready to take spring cuttings.

  • Sow a batch of sweet pea seed to ensure continuous flowers once autumn-sown plants have finished blooming.
