February Jobs
From the English Garden magazine Feb '22 issue;
Order snowdrops to plant 'in the green'. Divide existing clumps as their flowers fade.
Protect early fruit blossom from frost. Apricots and peaches both flower early, so keep fleece on hand to drape over them if frost is forecast.
Finish winter pruning wisteria, shortening shoots or two or three buds to promote the build-up of stumpy, flowering spurs.
When seed potatoes arrive, stand them eyes-upward on a light, cool windowsill to chit.
Overwintering chrysanthemum stools can be started into growth now, ready to take spring cuttings.
Sow a batch of sweet pea seed to ensure continuous flowers once autumn-sown plants have finished blooming.
