Physical and mental health have never been more important than in the last year and gardening, green spaces and getting outdoors have played a vital role in getting lots of us through the pandemic and all it's challenges. The National Garden Scheme published a report in September 2020 that said 92% of survey participants said their outdoor spaces were extremely important to them during lockdown and 87% said the key benefit was helping in relieving stress.

The NGS Gardens and Health programme raises awareness of the physical and mental health benefits of gardens and gardening for everyone. Celebrated in May each year their Gardens and Health week runs from the 7th - 16th May 2021. The NGS work to promote gardens and health throughout the year, linking service users from their beneficiaries with free garden visits and funding garden and health projects.

The NGS website is full of resources, articles and reports as well as ways you can offer your support to the scheme and directly impact the beneficiaries including Parkinsons UK, The Queen's Nursing Institute and more.

You can read more on the NGS Gardens and Health week on their website.
