10 RHS Targets to Sustainability
Net positive for nature
1. Climate positive by 2030. Capture and reduce more greenhouse gas emissions than the RHS value chain emits.
2. Biodiversity positive by 2025. Reverse habitat destruction in UK gardens and community green spaces, protect and improve conditions for pollinators and wildlife; and enhance and conserve cultivated plant diversity.
3. Biosecurity neutral by 2025. Manage and control biosecurity risks in RHS Gardens and Shows and share our knowledge help protect the environment.
4. Water neutral by 2030. Use less water, capture, reuse and recycle water in all RHS operations and encourage water-netural gardening practices.
5. Circular plastic by 2030. In RHS operations, eliminate single-use plastic; encourage reduced use of all plastics; and encourage gardeners to do the same.
6. Zero waste to landfill by 2030. In all RHS operations, reduce, reuse, recycle, compost, or send to energy recovery all waste and encourage gardeners to do the same.
Net positive for people
7. Enable more people to enjoy the benefits of gardening. Help a more diverse group of people to understand that gardening brings joy, and is accessible and relevant for mental, physical and social wellbeing.
8. Design a new evidence-based Wellbeing Garden Blueprint by 2025. Research and create a new evidence based Wellbeing Garden Blueprint, including both design and process, that enables everyone to leverage the health and wellbeing benefits of a garden.
9. Develop and embed sustainable horticulture within education, research and training. Develop sustainable horticultural research and training, increasing the skills, knowledge and confidence of young people and adults to grow sustainability.
10. Accelerate equality, diversity and inclusion. Develop the RHS, its employees and volunteers, brand, operations, marketing and activities to be truly inclusive and reflect all the communities of the UK.
